2022 Faculty Biennial

University Galleries of Illinois State University is pleased to present the 2022 Faculty Biennial from January 10 through February 23, 2022. All events are free and open to the public.

The 2022 Faculty Biennial presents work reflecting creative research by 32 faculty members and staff teaching during the 2021–2022 academic year in the Wonsook Kim School of Art and the Program in Creative Technologies. The artists in the exhibition represent the areas of Studio Art, Graphic Design, Art Education, Art History, and Creative Technologies. Featuring the mediums of ceramics, drawing, game design, glass, graphic design, installation, painting, performance, photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, video, and wood, the exhibition will also include artist lectures, workshops, and a performance.

Members of the faculty have exhibited their work nationally and internationally and have received support from such prestigious entities as the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the Fulbright Scholar Program, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Illinois Arts Council Agency, among many others. Participants are: Veda Rives Aukerman in collaboration with Meda Rives Smith, Ladan Bahmani, Saskia Beranek, Judith Briggs, Steve Bryant, Ruth Burke, Kristin Carlson, Tony Crowley, Vitoria Faccin-Herman, Andreas Fischer, Brian Franklin, Laura Primozic George, Melissa Johnson, Gary Justis, Jeremy Langston, Jin Lee, Tyler Lotz, James Mai, John Miller, Melissa Oresky, Morgan Price, Jason Reblando, Randall Reid, Tanya Scott, Sercan Şengün, Archana Shekara, Sarah Smelser, Albert Stabler in collaboration with Simone Fizdale, Albion Stafford, Annie Sungkajun, Michael Wille, and David Wilson.

All events are free and open to the public. Masks are required.

  Family artmaking workshop. Materials and instruction provided by University Galleries’ staff. Free and no reservations required.
• Saturday, February 5 at 1 p.m.
  Tour and Workshop: Art Around You. Co-presented with the Children’s Discovery Museum. Register at childrensdiscoverymuseum.net
• Tuesday, February 8 at noon
  Faculty Biennial lecture by Melissa Johnson, associate professor, art history and visual culture.
• Friday, February 11 at 6 p.m.
  Faculty Biennial performance by Ruth Burke. assistant professor, video. Hunter Oaks Equestrian Center, Carlock, Illinois.
  
• Tuesday, February 15 at 12 p.m.
  Faculty Biennial lecture by Saskia Beranek, assistant professor, art history.
  
• Saturday, February 19, from noon to 2:00 p.m.
  Family artmaking workshop. Materials and instruction provided by University Galleries’ staff. Free and no reservations required.

Field trip programs, curator-led tours, and workshops are available by appointment throughout the exhibition. Stipends are available for K-12 schools or community organizations to offset the costs of transportation. University Galleries, a unit in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts, is located at 11 Uptown Circle, Suite 103, at the corner of Beaufort and Broadway streets. Parking is available in the Uptown Station parking deck located directly above University Galleries—the first hour is free, as well as any time after 5:01 p.m.
