Middle Ground is a large-scale temporary installation consisting of wood, light, earth, and assorted materials that appears to have emerged from the space itself. The installation creates an uninterrupted environment of conceptual and constructive processes. Maquettes, photo documentation, and drawings of eight of Nardi’s permanent outdoor sculptures are included in the exhibition as well.
Nardi, an Illinois State master’s degree graduate, is known primarily for his outdoor site-specific sculptures in which he combines organic and industrial elements as raw concrete and wood or metal and water, emanate a quiet refinement where conflicting forces are harmoniously resolved. His preliminary renderings and maquettes are works of art in themselves and his mastery of materials such as concrete, metal, and wood is evident in the unique combinations and surfaces he creates.
